Hamilton vs. Jefferson

Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson played instrumental roles in the creation of America, and had completely different visions for the future of the country. But while a lot of recent attention has been paid to their disagreements, an object found at Monticello today might point to a deeper level ...

Restoring Monticello's Flower Gardens
Переглядів 289Місяць тому
In 1924 Monticello’s new owners began the process of restoring the gardens Jefferson had designed for his mountaintop home. But after a century of differing uses-and sometimes outright neglect-by various owners and caretakers, very little evidence remained of Jefferson’s original plans and plantings. It was a daunting task, and it could have ended quite differently were it not for the persevera...

Was this a member of staff that was making the charcoal or was it an enslaved person?

Why did they make it taller then he specified when they replaced it? He designed his own tombstone and they went against his wishes.

Thank you! I’ve been working through Jefferson’s Monticello by William Howard Adams and this video fills in a lot of the gaps that I was having a hard time visualizing. Can’t wait to see this amazing work in person.

Michael was George’s son. George was absolutely not the only one disrespected in the making of this recording. A common running theme is the dismissal of the intimate roles that “blacks” actually were in these people’s lives. George was very proud of who Michael was. It saddens me to see his role reduced to a science experiment.

The question remains ??? Why did Hamilton go the Jefferson's House ? Has Jefferson went to Hamiltons house ? Hamilton secretary of Treasury ( bonds ) , and Jefferson , Secretary of State ... Aren't they called sovereign bonds ? State bonds ? Why is Jefferson on Sovereign Coins , and Hamilton sovereign bonds ( paper ) ? One has Liberty , the other does not have liberty . Im grateful for them both , I'm especially grateful for my Life , Liberty , and pursuit of Happiness ! Jefferson made IT Happen ❤ Thank you Thomas Jefferson! As long as I live , I will always keep you in my heart . Always !

Hope's house is still standing in Haarlem. It is now the seat of the provincial government of North-Holland and is called "Welgelegen". Worth a visit, a 30 minute walk from the city center with the beautiful church with huge organ where many famous composers played on (among which Mozart). If you can have a tour, there is still a cannonball in the wall of the attic of the church shot by the spanis when besieging the city in 1572. Also in the church the shortest epigraph (Ik) meaning "I". The central square is considered the most beautiful old square in the Netherlands.

Why are _both_ doors required to be manually opened if there's the pulley system, which clearly works (mostly) to close both doors via the manual operation of only one door?

For those disparaging the mask. Jefferson was very interested in public health, medicine and science. He was instrumental in the development of an improved smallpox vaccine championed its use. He would certainly have worn a mask and been one of the first in line for a Covid vaccine. So this is perfectly in character for the worldwide pandemic that was raging at the time of this recording.

Thank you so much for making it. :-) Hearing about the state of medical practices back in Jefferson's day makes me very thankful that medicine has progressed so much. The modern medical world may not be perfect but it's infinitely better than it used to be!!!

A popular saying: History is written by the winners. However... History written by the winners may not be objective. There is always some nonzero degree of subjectivity in any and all versions of History. 10 witnesses of some historical event: 10 separate versions of the Truth about said historical event. History of country X written by the citizens of X tends to be mythologized. Mythologizing is inevitable when the adult citizens want to raise their children to be good citizens of country X: country X is glorious!!! country X is magnificent!!! All sales pitch of any kind have a degree of untruth: overplay the good and underplay the bad. Mythologizing is a barrier to solving country X's problem. Mythologizing makes difficult the uncovering of the inconvenient Truth. Proper diagnosis before proper therapy. Do not expect the proper diagnosis to be good news. Do not expect the proper diagnosis to be hopeful bad news.
